Learn to Play Guitar / Private Guitar Lessons in Columbus, Ohio!
Happy New Year!
First off I want to thank all of you for a wonderful holiday season. The response to the website and lesson program has been truly incredible. As I’m writing this the first snow of the year has fallen. Winter offers an excellent opportunity to buckle down and practice and that’s exactly what’s going on here at the shop. So if you’re interested in exploring the wonderfully scrumtrulescent world of guitar, ask yourself one question…why aren’t you here yet?
Also, I’m really excited to let all of you know that starting in February I’m going to be displaying the very eclectic rock-n-roll guitar collection of Dr. James Homan. Jim is a good friend of mine and fellow guitar fanatic, not to mention the guy to go to if you need dental braces, ha! He has some really cherry guitars that he has been kind enough to let me showcase here at the shop. I have to say, I’m tickled to death that one of them is a really good replica of Van Halen’s Frankenstein so make sure you stop by to check them out. We’ll be putting a new one up every month.
Well, that’s all for now.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year,
Matt Venus

Wow! I can not believe the response I have gotten from around the globe on the post. I wanted to tell all of you who have read and written in thank you. I appreciate all of you taking the time to tell me how much it helped you. That’s what it’s all about. To that end, I have posted part two of Transcribing Music By Ear 2.2. Enjoy!
The first 4 Instructional DVD’s from my series called (The Guitar Player’s Toolbox) are now available and ready to ship. Just click on the tab at the top of the page for more information.
This summer I got called to do a recording session for a gentleman named Don Nichols. Don does music for movies. I was hired to play a solo on a song named Memories Of Beijing. I just got my copy in the mail and I just wanted to give everybody a shout out about Don’s new CD. It’s called Retro-Blue Moments. It features some of Columbus’ finest musicians like Andy Woodson, Michael Cox, Kay Harris, Jim Rupp, Vaughn Wiester, Jim Curliss, Dean Inboden, and even Don himself just to name a few. Definitely worth checking out. Here’s a link if you’d like to learn more . http://project-one-productions.com/sampler.html
Here is a map if you need directions to the shop.

As a guitar teacher of 22 years in the Columbus, OH area I know the difference a good private instructor can make. After several thousand lessons you become very aware of what it is people want and don’t want when they decide to study an instrument with you. Adults tend to be terrified by the thought of a teacher teaching them songs like Mary Had A Little Lamb, and Kum Ba Ya. Teens seem to have an innate fear of a rigid old guitar teacher that has no clue what’s going on in the music world and instead wants to break
them in on jazz standards from the 1940′s. Personally, I have come to the conclusion that people can be taught much faster if they learn from music they actually enjoy listening to. I like to think I have a very unique approach to teaching the guitar in that I can teach you the typically very difficult musical concepts by showing you the relevance they have to the songs on your ipod or CD collection. I don’t really teach anybody exactly the same. Everybody is different and wants different things out of a guitar lesson. I’m very aware of this. Some people prefer structure and some people don’t. Some people only want me to figure out their favorite songs and teach them how to play them. Some people want to get deeply theoretical and forego learning songs at all. At any rate, I am able to accommodate you regardless of your skill level or choice of music and will be more than happy to help find a style of learning that works best for you.
